Q. What legal options do I have for nursing home neglect resulting in a stroke?
A: I’m so sorry to hear about your mother’s situation and completely understand how difficult this must be. Based on the facts you have shared in your question, you may want to immediately arrange a free consultation with a personal injury lawyer in New York who handles nursing home abuse and neglect.

As a general matter and depending on the exact circumstances, nursing homes can be held liable for things like delaying medical care. In fact, they can also be held liable for falls if their negligence was a cause of it.

It is important for you to know that a personal injury lawyer is likely to have a greater impact on the case the sooner they get involved since it will allow them to conduct an early investigation, gather key records, and determine whether a lawsuit is appropriate.

Given her age and the severity what happened, it is important to act quickly. If the nursing home failed to provide timely and proper care, they might be liable for damages.

Again, I am so sorry for what happened to your mother and am wishing her the best as she recovers.

Q. Can I get in legal trouble from an online chat offering services?
A: Based on the facts you've shared in your question, it is unlikely that you would face criminal charges. Simply getting an unsolicited offer for prostitution isn’t a crime. Logically, it is the same as a situation where a person is walking down a street and someone offers prostitution to them but they decline. The person making the solicitation might be charged with a crime, but the person innocently walking down the street and declining the offer shouldn’t.

So even though you might not have criminal liability based on the facts described, it is certainly wise to continue to exercise caution with online interactions. It can be a good practice to block such individuals and consider reporting the interaction to the platform involved.

In the event you are contacted by law enforcement regarding the interaction described, you should avoid making any statements without first consulting a qualified criminal defense attorney in your state. With that said, from what you've described, there would not appear to be much of a reason to be concerned.

Wishing you all the best, and I hope you found this response helpful and informative.

Q. Accused of crimes, need to prove innocence, Circleville, OH.
A: I’m sorry to hear about your situation and am wishing you all the best through this incredibly difficult time. In response to your question, I think it is important to highlight a few things.

First, in a criminal case, you are innocent until proven guilty. This is called a presumption of innocence. It basically means that it is the prosecution’s burden to prove you guilty. You don’t need to prove you are innocent.

Second, it sounds like you will certainly need a lawyer to represent you. I understand from your question that you might not be able to afford one, but it is important for you to know that you have a constitutional right to a lawyer, which can be provided to you at no cost. I would highly encourage you to reach out to your local public defender’s office immediately if you haven’t already.

The lawyer who ends up representing you will be tasked with zealously defending you against the charges. They will know how to best challenge the prosecution’s evidence in order to achieve the best possible outcome in your case. There are plenty of cases where someone is falsely accused, and your lawyer will be able to best evaluate the proper strategy for helping you fight any charges that you face.

Third, it is important to know that lie detectors can be very risky and unreliable. They are also not typically admissible evidence in court. With regards to potentially taking a lie detector test, it can be very risky to do that, especially if you haven't spoken with your own lawyer about it. When you have a lawyer, you can ask them their thoughts on that issue, and they will be able to explain things to you more fully and advise you on your options.

Again, I am wishing you all the best and hope you find this answer helpful and informative. Please be sure to contact your local public defender’s office as soon as possible and avoid speaking with law enforcement about your case in the meantime.
